iCAN Lab 2024 Annual Research Review: Focusing on Microenvironment Immunomodulation to Promote Innovative Applications in Nanomedicine

2025-01-08

In 2024, the iCAN Lab consistently centered on the core strategy of "Microenvironment Immunomodulation Nanocarrier Systems," achieving significant progress in both fundamental research and translational applications, thereby making unique contributions to the field of nano-immunotherapy.

Over the past year, the lab's research focus has been on designing intelligent nanocarrier systems capable of precisely targeting various physiological and pathological microenvironments. Successfully broadening the targeting scope to include the tumor microenvironment, splenic microenvironment, and lymph node microenvironment has laid a solid foundation for precise immune interventions in specific spatial contexts. In terms of immunomodulation, breakthroughs have been made in both "immune enhancement" and "immune tolerance." Technologically, two major platforms have been established: biomimetic nanocarriers and lipid-like nanoparticle systems. The former enhances drug delivery efficiency and biocompatibility, promoting enrichment at disease sites, while the latter features tunable structures and modular functionalities, serving as a key technology for loading nucleic acids and small-molecule drugs, demonstrating broad application potential.

The lab extends sincere gratitude to Professor Xing-Jie Liang's team at the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology for their profound academic guidance and effective collaboration. We also express heartfelt appreciation to the School of Biomedical Engineering at Guangzhou Medical University for providing an excellent research platform and resource support, as well as to the National Natural Science Foundation of China for their continuous funding. The invaluable support from all parties has been crucial for the lab's scientific advancement and sustainable development.

The past year has witnessed remarkable achievements, and the new year calls for reaching even greater heights. Looking ahead to 2025, iCAN Lab will continue to dedicate efforts to transforming cutting-edge basic research discoveries into practical solutions for clinical challenges, contributing further to the advancement of biomedicine and the protection of human health.
